The AIF® designation is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of fiduciary responsibility and are committed to acting in the best interests of their clients. Qualification requires: minimum of two years of relevant experience plus a bachelor's degree and a professional designation, minimum of five years of relevant experience plus either a bachelor's degree or a professional designation, or minimum of eight years of relevant experience; hybrid online/in-person blended, instructor-led, or online self-paced training courses and a final closed book, proctored certification exam; and ongoing continuing education of at least six hours annually.
The CIAA® designation is awarded by the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association. While not mandatory, candidates are strongly encouraged to have foundational knowledge of the financial service industry and have completed a college corporate finance course and an introduction to statistics course. Qualification requires: self-study curriculum materials and two in-person, proctored exams.
The CEPA® designation is awarded to individuals who help business owners transition their companies. It focuses on the Value Acceleration Methodology to increase business value, optimize personal financial plans, and plan for successful exits. Qualification requires completion of a five-day virtual education program and a final proctored exam, as well as ongoing continuing education of at least 40 hours every three years.
The CFP® designation identifies individuals who have completed the mandatory examination, education, experience, and ethics requirements mandated by the CFP Board. Candidates must have at least three years of qualifying work experience that relates to financial planning. Candidates are required to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or CFP Board equivalent. CFP® candidates must pass an examination that covers over 100 financial planning topics, which broadly includes: general principles of financial planning, insurance planning and risk management, employee benefits planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning, and estate planning. Finally, candidates have ongoing ethics requirements and oversight by the CFP Board.
The ChFC® designation identifies individuals who have completed the mandatory examination, education, experience, and ethics requirements mandated by The American College of Financial Services. Candidates must have at least three years of full-time business experience within the five years preceding the awarding of the designation of a high school diploma or equivalent. ChFC® candidates must complete eight online self-study courses and pass a closed book, proctored final course exam. Finally, candidates have ongoing continuing education requirements which require 30 hours of continuing education every two years, Including one hour of ethics.
The CKA® designation is awarded to financial professional who integrate biblical principles into financial planning and advice. Qualification requires letter of reference from a pastor or pastoral staff member; two client references; profession specific prerequisites (e.g., CFP®, CPA, CFA®, or 10+ years of relevant experience); completion of a 20-module education program, a case study application project, and a final proctored exam; and ongoing continuing education of at least 10 hours per year.
The CLU® designation is awarded to individuals who specialize in life insurance and estate planning. Qualification requires: three years of full-time business experience within the five years preceding the awarding of the designation; completion of four courses and one elective course or prerequisite designation and closed-book, proctored final course exams; and ongoing continuing education of at least 30 hours every two years, including one hour of ethics.
The CTFA is a professional designation awarded by the American Bankers Association. It signifies advanced expertise in trust administration, estate planning, fiduciary responsibilities, tax law, and investment management. Qualification requires three years minimum experience in wealth management and completion of an approved wealth management training program, all within the last seven years; five years minimum experience in wealth management within the last seven years and a bachelor's degree or 10 or more years of experience in wealth management, with at least five of the 10 years occurring within the last seven years; and candidates must pass a comprehensive proctored exam and complete 45 credits of continuing education every three years.
The LUTCF® designation is awarded to individauls who help with life underwriting. Qualifications require: online, self-study courses; online course exams and in-person, proctored final exam; for designations earned after 2025, three hours of ethics-related CE, plus a self-study designation renewal course every three years; and for designations earned prior to 2025, requirements vary depending on date designation was earned.
The RICP® designation is awarded to financial professionals who specialize in retirement income planning. The program prepares advisors to develop sustainable, holistic, and integrated retirement income strategies tailored to clients’ long-term financial needs. Qualification requires: a high school diploma or the equivalent and three years of full-time relevant business experience within the five years preceding the certification; completion of online, self-study courses and a final proctored exam; and ongoing continuing education of at least 30 hours every two years, including one hour of ethics.
The WMCP® designation is awarded to individuals who specialize in goal-based planning, investment management, and constructing diversified, tax-efficient portfolios. Qualification requires: one year of relevant business experience within the five years preceding the date of award and a high school diploma or the equivalent; completion of three online self-study courses and closed-book, proctored final course exams; and ongoing continuing education of at least 30 hours every two years, including one hour of ethics.
